IoM Award for Best Ceramics Graduate

The Institute of Materials' A T Green Award for the best graduate specialising in ceramic materials has this year been won by Joe Kelleher, a graduate of the University of Manchester.

Joe gained a first class MEng degree in Materials Engineering with Industrial Experience, spending his period of work experience at ERA Technology Ltd in Leatherhead, Surrey. He is now undertaking a PhD involving the measurement of residual stresses and internal defects in railway lines in order to improve the precision of service life predictions.

Head of the Materials Department at the University of Manchester, Professor Gordon Lorimer, said: "Joe has an enquiring mind and an ability for effective lateral thinking. He is never afraid to try new approaches to aid his understanding of a problem".

Joe received his award from IoM Chief Executive Bernie Rickinson at a special student awards ceremony in November.
