Imerys Still on Acquisition Trail

Imerys has entered into an agreement with Erachem Comilog for the takeover
of its carbon black facility in Willebroek in Belgium. The operation should
be finalised in the beginning of 2003.

The unit achieves annual sales of around 12 million euro from a highly
innovative plant in terms of its special carbon black manufacturing process.
It employs approximately 30 people and mainly serves the mobile energy and
conductive plastics markets.

This news follows the earlier report that the Imerys Minerals for Abrasives
division had acquired from Alcoa a plant for the production of fused alumina
and silicon carbide in Brazil. Located in Salto, the plant achieves annual
sales of around US$15 million.

This operation extends the division's fused alumina production capabilities
in Latin America. The Imerys subsidiary already has a plant in Puerto Ordaz
in Venezuela. The acquisition will enable the division to meet demand from
key customers who are expanding their South American activities by providing
them with a local industrial and commercial base.
