Iluka Wins Explorer of the Year Award in Australia

Iluka Resources Ltd (Perth, WA, Australia) was presented with the Explorer of the Year Award at the third Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards dinner held in Brisbane.

The Explorer of the Year Award recognises Iluka’s exploration efforts in the discovery of the major zircon deposits of Jacinth and Ambrosia in the Eucla Basin of South Australia. The Eucla Basin represents one of Iluka’s main exploration focus areas.

Peter Benjamin, Executive General Manager, Exploration said: "The Explorer of the Year Award is a great accolade to Iluka’s group-wide exploration function and, in particular, the team that worked to identify and discover what may be one of the major new zircon provinces globally. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the invaluable work of Iluka’s Manager, Project Generation, Mr Peter McGoldrick for his dedication and commitment to the identification of this exploration opportunity".

Ian Warland, Manager, Geology, Eucla Basin and Ms Lexie Bracher, Project Geologist were present to receive the award, along with Peter Benjamin.

On 10 October, Iluka was also presented with the Kingsgate Consolidated Explorer of the Year Award at the Excellence in Mining Conference held in Sydney

Iluka has booked in situ heavy mineral resources of 10 million tonnes associated with the Jacinth and Ambrosia discoveries, as well as the Tripitaka discovery (the latter in conjunction with Adelaide Resources Ltd), with an interest in zircon resources of approximately 4.9 million tonnes. Iluka is pursuing a major exploration programme across some of its 60,000 square kilometre acreage holdings in the Eucla Basin.
