Hygan Gives Pottery Decorators a Free Hand

Hygan Products (Stoke-on-Trent, England) has commercially launched the 'Free Hand' on to the world-wide market, this being an industry proven device which allows pottery decorators the facility of having both hands free to apply decals, band ware or freehand paint without having to handle the item being decorated. This creates the advantage of reducing loss, improving quality and increasing production.

The device is said to be simple and easy to use. It fits easily on to a bench and can be adjusted to accommodate most items up to 10-inch diameter and 3-inch height clay size. The item of ware is located on the device using vacuum.

If a vacuum generator is fitted, then only air pressure is required. Otherwise, air pressure at 50-60psi and vacuum at 30" must be available.

The head can be adjusted to suit any position/angle. When the item of ware has been located on the head of the unit, it is moved by just operating a toggle switch; the head can then be rotated to any position required. To remove the item after decoration, the vacuum is released. The decorator can either work directly on the bench or in a side position, whichever is most convenient.
