High Level Chinese Visit to Bayer

The Chinese Vice-Premier, Zeng Peiyan, visited Bayer AG on 26 November 2004
while on a visit to Germany. He was accompanied by the Ambassador of the
People's Republic of China in Germany, Ma Canrong, and a high ranking
delegation. Werner Wenning, Chairman of the Board of Management of Bayer
AG, Board member Udo Oels, and Dr Hagen Noerenberg, Chairman of the Board of
Management of Bayer MaterialScience AG, welcomed the guests on board a ship
in Cuxhaven, to take them to the Bayer site at Brunsbuettel. There, the
delegation was welcomed by the Economics Minister of the State of
Schleswig-Holstein, Dr Bernd Rohwer and the manager of Bayer's Brunsbuettel
site, Dr Roland Stegmueller.

Werner Wenning pointed out that China was the country with the fastest
growing economy in the world and with the most direct foreign investment.
At the same time, China was facing new challenges such as ensuring energy
supplies, combating disease and safeguarding the quality of agricultural
products. "I am confident that, with Bayer's expertise in the fields of
high-tech materials, health care and nutrition, plus its creative potential
as an inventor company, we can make a significant contribution to mastering
these tasks," he said.

Referring to a major project being realised by Bayer MaterialScience in
Caojing near Shanghai, Herr Wenning said: "On behalf of everyone involved,
I would like to thank you and the Chinese Government most warmly for the
enormous support we had in setting up this project. We hope we can count on
this support in the future".
