Graphite Electrode Protection Material

Aremco Products Inc (Valley Cottage, NY, USA) has introduced a new high
temperature oxidation resistant coating, designated Graphi-Coat 623. This
is a patented, titanium diboride based coating which is said to
significantly inhibit the oxidation of most commercial grades of graphite to
1370°C. This two-part system is a water-based, ceramic-filled, non-volatile
material which is applied easily using conventional pneumatic spraying
equipment.

Graphi-Coat is formulated with a weight and volume solids content of 78% and
58% respectively. The coverage rate assuming a dry film thickness of 0.001
inch is 890 square feet per gallon (US measures). Once applied, Graphi-Coat
sets at room temperature in one to two hours, then cured in situ or in 10-15
minutes at 705°C.
