New Machinable Glass-Ceramic now Available

Aremcolox(tm) 502-600 - a new machinable glass-ceramic available from Aremco Products Inc (Valley Cottage, NY, USA), is now used to produce thermally insulative and high dielectric components and fixtures used in electrical and electronics applications to
593°C.

Principal features are said to include outstanding electrical resistance, low thermal conductivity, high mechanical strength, zero porosity and ease of machinability using carbide tools. Specifications include compressive and flexural strengths of 32,000psi and 14,000psi respectively; a dielectric strength of 380V/mil; dielectric constant of 6.8 at 1MHz; and thermal conductivity of 4.08Btu-in/hr-ft2 -°F.

Aremcolox(tm) 502-600 is typically used in high temperature electrical systems. Applications include connector housings, instrument and appliance insulators, coil forms and bobbins, resistor supports, capacitor insulators and arc barriers. It is available from stock in rods from quarter inch to 1 inch diameter by 18 inches in length and in plates from eighth inch to 1 inch thick by 14 inches by 20 inches. Customised sizes and parts are also produced.
