Figgjo AS has won the Award for Design Excellence for 2001!

Figgjo has won the Award for Design Excellence at Design Day in Oslo on 28 November 2001 for its unconventional plate, Figgjo Pyramide.

The Award for Design Excellence is an honour bestowed by the Norwegian Design Council and goes to Norwegian products that distinguish themselves by good design, both functionally and visually.

Figgjo Pyramide was designed by Olav Joa the head of product development at Figgjo. Figgjo Pyramide is Figgjo's official 60th anniversary product, embracing elements from the company's sixty-year design history. Much of the design inspiration for Figgjo Pyramide was drawn from earlier Figgjo products designed by Hermann Bongard, who in the 1960s was one of Scandinavia's most renowned designers.

The decision of the Norwegian Design council jury reads in part:

"Figgjo Pyramide draws inspiration from Hermann Bongard's classic waffle design from the 1960s, but reinterprets it by enlarging elements and by giving it a new function. Figgjo Pyramide comes across as an innovative setting for the presentation of finger food and is fully integrated into Figgjo's more recent product lines."

Award for Design Excellence
Awarded by the Norwegian Design Council

The Award for Design Excellence is a welcome distinction after the Honours Award for Design Excellence, which the Norwegian Design Council bestowed on Figgjo in 2000. The Award for Design Excellence and the Honours Award for Design Excellence are very important for the entire company and prove that the company has made great strides in its development, based on the strategy formulated by owners, the Board of Directors and management in the mid-1990s. Among the elements of this strategy was Figgjo's aim to achieve a position as a trendsetter in the areas of product development and design.
