EPMA PM Thesis Competition 2002 Results

The two winners of the European Powder Metallurgy Association PM Thesis Competition 2002 were awarded their prizes at Euro PM 2002 which was held in Lausanne, Switzerland from 7-9 October 2002. The prizes, which were sponsored by Höganäs AB of Sweden were presented by the President of EPMA, Dr Cesar Molins, at the opening plenary session of the conference.

In the closely fought competition - which EPMA says was marked as usual by exceedingly high standards - the winner of the Doctorate section was Dr Ibon Akzona, who obtained his PhD from the University of Navarra. Dr Akzona received a cheque for 1,000 euro and then gave a short presentation on 'Effect of Processing Conditions on Sinter-HIP Densification of Titanium Diboride Based Cermets'.

Davide Ornato, winner of the Masters section, who gained his Diploma at the Politecnico di Torino, was presented with a cheque for 750 euro. Mr Ornato gave a short presentation on 'High Density Sintering of Duplex Stainless Steels'.
