EoPlex Gets New Director of Research & Development

EoPlex Technologies (Redwood City, CA, USA), the company that produces ceramic, metallic and polymeric components by a new low cost print-forming technology, has announced that Dr Sunder Ram has joined the company as Director of Research and Development. Among his initial responsibilities, he will be charged with management of the entire EoPlex organic and inorganic materials group.

"We are pleased to welcome a team member with the stature of Sunder Ram," stated Arthur Chait, President and CEO of EoPlex. "Dr. Ram is well suited to contribute to our revolutionary print deposition technique in building monolithic miniature structures with multiple materials and high complexity."

Dr Ram joins EoPlex with 25 years of multidisciplinary experience in advanced polymers, as well as inorganic and hybrid materials, for a diverse portfolio of technologies in research and development. He has a broad knowledge of chemistry and wide applications of engineering plastics, optical polymers, adhesives, laminations, dyes and pigments, inks, sol-gels, coupling agents, emulsions and metal chemistry. His extensive hands-on experience includes working with radiation curable polymers and refractory fillers, complex formulations, process development and commercialisation.

In his professional career, Dr Ram has held senior technical and management positions at InSound Medical, Sola International, FlexIcs and Xidex Magnetics. After obtaining a PhD in Chemistry, Dr Ram pursued postdoctoral research in Colloids and Surface Science for more than three years at the University of Florida. He holds 18 US patents and has published several papers in research journals. His publications also include technical books, where he served as author and editorial assistant. He has been invited to chair technical sessions and has presented four of his papers at various international conferences. He brings considerable experience in managing scientists, engineers and technicians and he has a demonstrated ability to deliver new products from concept to commercialisation.

"As it happens, we have a proven synergy with Dr Ram," continued Arthur Chait. "He was a technical consultant to EoPlex in 2002 and 2003 when he identified and developed small three-dimensional structures and assisted us in formulating novel UV curable compositions to print multi-layers with good stability and selective solubility. EoPlex is now poised for rapid growth, as our products are entering the qualification stage with customers in several industries. Dr Ram joins us at the perfect time to lead and continue to build our outstanding materials team as we meet customer requirements for increasingly complex, multi-material components."
