New Rendering Module for Delcam's Powershape

Delcam (Birmingham, England) is to introduce a new rendering module, called PS-Render, for its PowerSHAPE CAD system. PS-Render will be based on software developed by LightWorks, provider of rendering functionality for many of today's leading CAD systems. However, the implementation will be fundamentally different, allowing designers to operate in a completely new way.

With most existing packages, rendering is said to be a slow and laborious process that is only carried out at the end of the design exercise to provide materials for, for example, test marketing of the product with potential suppliers or customers. In contrast, PS-Render will operate continuously in the background and provide a rendered image within a few minutes whenever the user stops working. The continuous availability of the rendered view will enable the aesthetics of a design to be reviewed as it develops, instead of having to wait until the design is complete before realistic images can be generated.

PS-Render will be supplied with a range of default materials, lighting arrangements and background artwork so that users won't have to do any additional programming to produce a wide variety of effects. However, facilities will also be available for extra materials or effects to be added.
