250,000 Computer Investment at Royal Crown Derby

Royal Crown Derby's new 250,000 computer system has gone on-line supported by 12 additional jobs. These are in sales, IT, financial control and logistics and the company, which achieved its independence from Royal Doulton earlier this year, continues its recruitment drive.

The company's finance director Stuart Hughes said: "The new computer system from Efacs Software in Nottinghamshire replaces facilities we previously relied on from Royal Doulton. It is a fully integrated package controlling customer service aspects from the time an order is received until it is despatched. This includes factory planning, stock control and invoicing.

"It is the first phase of a larger IT development programme that is necessary now that we are a totally stand-alone company. It has the added benefit of being from a local supplier who can respond quickly to our needs."

Hugh Gibson, chief executive, added: "We are at the exclusive end of the fine china market and, in reality, our IT requirements could not be adequately met as part of a volume production business like Royal Doulton. Service is a key requirement for us and this new IT package enables us to meet our customers' expectations both at home and overseas."

Efacs Software director Martin Jones said: "The implementation of our business solutions system was completed in just three months and within budget. It provides the capabilities to enable manufacturing companies to further develop their procedures and use the internet for a variety of tasks. These include order placement, stock and price enquiries and general administration. It will also place and receive business documents such as order and quotations."

Royal Crown Derby will shortly be recruiting for additional jobs in various areas of the business, including personnel and export.
