BCT Officially Announces Phase Three Plans

British Ceramic Tile (BCT) unveiled on 15 November 2000 plans for the third and final phase of its 30 million plus wall tile production centre at The Millennium Tile Works in Newton Abbot, Devon, England. Phase III will create an additional 100,000 square feet of warehousing space for the state-of-the-art tile manufacturing plant, as well as providing a further 100 local jobs over the next 12 months. BCT has already created direct employment for over 250 people.

The third phase, which commences with the removal of the final remaining building of the former Candy Tiles site, will also house a further production line, creating a total of six full-time, high volume lines capable of producing tiles 24 hours a day.

Since starting production one year ago, BCT has manufactured an average of 10,000 metres of tile a day and secured a number of major contracts, including sole supplier of ceramic tile to all 208 Focus Do It All stores throughout the UK. The company is now one of the largest manufacturers of ceramic wall tile in the UK.

Chief executive Tim Evitt said: "I can't believe how much we have achieved in just over one year of production. It is testament to the hard work of everyone involved in the project, from investors through to the designers through to the production line that we have established ourselves so quickly as a major force in UK tile manufacturing.

"Starting work on the third and final phase means that next year we should be able to meet our targeted production forecast of more than 12 million square metres of tile a year. Once we do, we will be looking at exporting to a number of international markets as well as fulfilling the growing demand in our own."
