John Zink Unveils Industrial-Scale Thermal Oxidation Test Facility

John Zink Co LLC (Tulsa, OK, USA), a developer of advanced combustion technologies and environmental solutions and part of the Koch Chemical Technology Group, has designed and built an industrial-scale thermal oxidation test facility. This addition to John Zink’s research, development and test centre furthers the company’s ongoing commitment to improving the science of combustion.

John Zink’s new facility is capable of numerous test configurations and its stack can accommodate a firing capacity of up to 50 million BTU/hour. A variety of fuels and waste compositions can be reproduced to simulate different gas and liquid waste conditions for accurate testing.

"Reliable testing is critical to the development of advanced thermal oxidation technologies," said Dr Roberto Ruiz, Vice President of Technology
and Commercial Development at John Zink. "John Zink’s state-of-the-art
thermal oxidation test facility will enable us to develop next-generation combustion technologies that improve destruction efficiencies, reduce emissions and lower equipment costs for customers."

The test facility is staffed with a team of researchers and scientists that has more than 200 years of combined experience in the thermal oxidation market. Operations are fully automated and include sophisticated data
acquisition systems to document test result trends. Extractive sampling
techniques are used to measure the composition of flue gases including oxygen, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and unburned hydrocarbons.

John Zink’s test facility will be used to develop improved combustion technologies and to validate computational fluid dynamic solutions developed by the company’s simulation technology solutions group. The thermal oxidation test facility is designed to provide the best available equipment for thermal destruction of gaseous and liquid wastes.

John Zink Co LLC is a leading provider of environmental solutions, advanced combustion systems and breakthrough technologies worldwide, servicing a wide range of global markets. John Zink branded products include JZ flares® , process burners, duct burners, thermal oxidisers and vapour control systems; KALDAIR® flares; TODD® boiler burners; and GORDON-PIATT® boiler burners.
