Ceramic Workshop Returns to Tecnargilla

Ceramic Workshop, a collection of displays and exhibits first opened in 2002, will be returning to Rimini from 1-5 October 2004 as part of the Tecnargilla exhibition. The event, created by Acimac to enhance Tecnargilla's ability to present new trends and innovations in the ceramic sector, will again be coordinated by IED, the European Design Institute in Milan, which similarly contributed to the 2002 event.

A number of themes will be explored by the students on the three-year courses of Industrial and Interior Design and their tutors. The architect Ambrogio Tressoldi will coordinate research projects conducted by about 20 students on new applications of ceramic materials in urban design (not only in the form of tiles), identifying possible actions in the municipalities located in the Sassuolo ceramic cluster.

The architect Fabrizio Bertero will coordinate the work of 12 students currently writing their degree theses. One of the research projects will examine colour and material trends based on a study of the world of advertising, interior design and fashion. The theme of this exhibit will complement the proposals showcased in Kromatech, the focus section of the exhibition on colour, creativity and aesthetic trends in the ceramic industry and will provide ideas for ceramic company designers involved in new product development.

Additionally, the IED will present two more study projects:

» historical and sociological study of the development of ceramics during the last century and its use in different fields of application.

» a study of new concepts, i.e. projects for innovative uses of ceramic with particular attention to its potential for application in a three-dimensional form and thus moving beyond its function as a two-dimensional surface covering.
