Ceramic Company Leads on Lean Thinking

Portmeirion Potteries is one of a number of leading companies contributing to a one-day event on modern production strategies. Factories wanting to progress into lean manufacturing can find out how others have done it at a Manufacturing Masterclass at The Manufacturing Institute in Manchester on Wednesday 6 June.

Lean manufacturing experts from Bacardi Martini, Leyland Trucks, Portmeirion, Accelerated Improvement and the Anglo-Japanese automotive manufacturer UYS Ltd will explain how they have crafted people and culture to create a successful lean manufacturing environment.

They will offer practical advice on how companies can progress towards to a lean working culture and David Graham - Continuous Improvement Manager for Leyland Trucks - will present a case study on how his company moved from a 'rottweiler' style of command and control to lean thinking team working.

The panel will demonstrate the true characteristics of a lean working culture, where the focus is on meeting customer expectations through active problem solving and no-blame team working and where there is a continuous improvement and learning culture.
