NVQ Update and Sector Workforce Development at RBPTC

The Refractories & Building Products Training Council (RBPTC) has published a step-by-step guide to the introduction on National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). The guide is based on RBPTC's tried and tested methods which have been highly successful in many of the industry's progressive companies.

The guide explains how an organisation can be approved to offer NVQs by highlighting all of the steps and procedures involved. Details of key personnel and their roles and responsibilities in the NVQ procedure are also included.

Additionally announced, the Sector Workforce Development Plan (SWDP) is said to be the most important tool with which RBPTC will fulfil its strategic remit - which is to inform, advise, influence and persuade all stakeholders to act in concert to provide the sector with the training help, support and facilities to enable the sector to become world class producers.

The SWDP builds on the work of projects such as The Skills Foresight Analysis, Strategic Capability and Occupational Mapping, coupled with extensive discussions with member companies through formal routes such as the Sector Committees and informal routes such as meetings of industrial, trade and professional bodies.

The consultative version of the plan has just been completed and distributed for comment. The final plan will take into account the comments of all stakeholders and will be published in June 2001. The final plan will be distributed to all identified companies in the sector, all relevant stakeholders and will also be available on the RBPTC website. An Executive Summary will be publicised widely.
