Huber Engineered Materials Increases Kaolin Clay Pricing; Eliminates Energy Surcharge

Huber Engineered Materials (Atlanta, GA, USA), part of J.M. Huber Corporation, has announced the elimination of a temporary energy surcharge across its line-up of calcined and water-washed kaolin clay
products used in industrial (non-paper) applications, effective 15 May 2006.

The company also announced a North American price increase for its kaolin clay sold to industrial markets, effective the same day. This announcement does not include kaolin clay for use in paper applications.

The increase:
Industrial calcined clay: US$26/Short ton
Industrial water-washed clay: US$8/Short ton
The Industrial Specialties team of Huber Engineered Materials implemented an energy surcharge on all calcined and water-washed grades of kaolin clay in December 2005 in response to escalating energy costs.

"We appreciate the support we received from our customer base during a very difficult time. We believe that the worst of this crisis is now behind us and, even though energy related costs remain high, we believe it is now appropriate for us to eliminate the energy surcharge from our invoices," said Tom Anderskow, Director of Sales and Service, Industrial Kaolin.

"Since last fall, Huber has absorbed fuel, freight, packaging, and raw material cost increases," continued Anderskow. "We, at Huber, are proud of our reputation as a consistent supplier of high quality kaolin products with convenient lead times. In the face of increasing demand for packaged kaolin clay products, we need to invest in capacity expansion in order to maintain our record as a solid, reliable supplier."
