European Ceramic Context 2006

Star ceramists from 28 European countries will exhibit on the Danish island of Bornholm in late summer 2006. The big European ceramics event - European Ceramic Context 2006 - is now taking shape with many of the exhibitors having been confirmed and named.

The selected ceramists are said to be among the finest in Europe. Established stars, budding young talents and industrial designers each present two contemporary works in three different exhibitions: The Art Museum of Bornholm presents works by the established ceramics elite, Grønbechs Gård presents works by young ceramists under 30, and Hjorth's Factory Bornholm - Museum of Ceramics presents industrially manufactured ceramic design.

The exhibitions have their official opening on Friday 8 September 2006 at The Art Museum of Bornholm with the participation of the Danish Minister of Culture, Brian Mikkelsen. The exhibitions close on 22 October 2006.

At the official opening, a winner from each of the three exhibitions will be presented with an award of 10,000 euros. The winners are selected by an international jury. The five jury members are:

- Nino Caruso (Italy)
- Peteris Martinsons (Latvia)
- Martina Margetts (United Kingdom)
- Janet Mansfield (Australia)
- Lars Kærulf Møller (Denmark, Director at The Art Museum of Bornholm - part of the organiser group)

The selection of the many European ceramists was made by national commissioners, all of whom are among Europe's most knowledgeable ceramics experts. These commissioners represent some of Europe's leading museums, galleries and organisations for ceramics and other handicrafts.
