First for EPMA as General Assembly Held in Istanbul

The 2007 EPMA (European Powder Metallurgy Association) General Assembly took place at the Richmond Hotel in Istanbul and was attended by nearly 40 people from some 35 companies. The two-day event, which was the first time EPMA had held a formal event in Turkey, included the EPMA Annual Dinner as well as board, council and committee meetings. Presentations will be available on the EPMA members' website shortly.

Elections for a new EPMA Board and Council were held at the Association's General Assembly. Ingo Cremer was elected as the new EPMA President, for a three-year term of office, replacing Dr Cesar Molins who had held the post for the last six years. The meeting also marked the retirement of Peter Brewin as Technical Director at EPMA. Presentations were made to both gentlemen during the event in recognition of their outstanding service to the association.

The delegates also heard two keynote papers, the first on the local Turkish automotive industry by Professor Ercan Tezer, Secretary General of the Turkish Automotive Producers Association. The second was a review paper covering the Development and Status of the Turkish PM industry and was given by Professor Suleyman Saritas, President of the Turkish PM Association.

Jonathan Wroe, Executive Director of EPMA, said: “This year's event was an excellent chance to combine key discussions on future EPMA activities with networking and social events in the historic city of Istanbul. We are grateful to Professor Saritas and the Turkish PM Association for the support they have given us in organising the meeting and we hope that we can work again with them in the future”.

The next meetings of EPMA Working groups will be a series of open meetings at the Euro PM2007 Congress and Exhibition to be held in Toulouse, France from 15-17 October 2007. This all topic conference will feature special workshops on Dimensional Control of Ferrous Structural Parts, Designing for MIM and Hard Materials for Advanced Applications. The Euro PM2007 exhibition is now nearly sold out and details of the technical programme will be available by June.
