13th General Assembly Hears of Successful 2001 for EPMA

The European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) General Assembly and Management Seminar was reported to be a successful event, with various committees and over 70 people attending over the three days in Quinta da Marinha in Portugal.

President Cesar Molins reviewed the previous 12 months saying that it had been a mixed year for the European powder metallurgy industry. The market slowdown in the USA - and to a lesser extent Europe - had adversely affected many companies. However, the overall volume of sales for ferrous PM products had fallen only slightly, by less than 2%.

Despite the external economic environment, EPMA itself had a successful year with both the PM 2001 exhibition in Nice and its Summer School in San Sebastian being well attended and producing positive reactions from the participants.

Satellite meetings of the various EPMA Working Groups and Networks were held to coincide with the event and updates on their many activities were presented to the Assembly. Delegates at the Management Seminar heard a number of leading edge papers from a range of speakers, including Octavio Carmo Costa (VW AutoEuropa), Manuel Valente (Durit Metalurgia), Dr Olle Grinder (PM Technology) and Mike Morley (Consultant).
