Engelhard Acquires Ceramic Coating Business from O. Hommel


Engelhard Corporation (Iselin, NJ, USA) has acquired the ceramic coating business of O. Hommel Company (Pittsburgh, USA). The new business is complementary to Engelhard's existing glass coatings line and will allow the company to offer customers a wider range of products and technologies.

The O. Hommel ceramic coating business has an international customer base for glass fired enamels and other glass coating products which serve the automotive, decorative, flat and speciality glass industries. The business is said to be respected within the ceramics, glass, plastic and metal industries for both its technological innovations and its product performance.

"The addition of O. Hommel's ceramic business gives Engelhard a unique ability to serve customers in the automotive glass and decorative glass industries from one source," said Paul Hameleers, Business Manager of Engelhard's Engineered Coatings group. "This dynamic combination of coating resources will yield immediate efficiencies and produce advanced products in the near term."

Engelhard will now offer a full range of products for inorganic and organic coating system to its various markets. For ceramics, the company is best known for its range of pigments and stains for ceramic applications as well as precious metal coatings for all ceramic decorating requirements.
