Wienerberger Acquires Eichhorn Brick Business in Austria

Wienerberger Ziegelindustrie GmbH, the Austrian operating subsidiary of the world’s largest brick producer Wienerberger AG, is to acquire a hollow brick plant in Blindenmarkt, Lower Austria, from Eichhorn GmbH as of 2 May 2006. This facility has an annual capacity of 60 million brick units.

In 2005 the company generated revenues of roughly 3 million euro with 18 employees. The parties have agreed not to disclose any information on the purchase price for this acquisition. For Wienerberger the transaction represents an optimal geographic addition to its current network of seven hollow brick plants in Austria.

The company said that the integration of the Blindenmarkt plant into the existing Wienerberger organisation would further improve earnings power in Austria. "The Eichhorn business fits well with our strategy to pursue smaller, profitable growth projects that will steadily increase our market position. Wienerberger plans to invest at least 250 million euro in smaller acquisitions as well as the construction of new plants and extension of capacity during 2006," explained Johann Windisch, responsible member of the Managing Board of Wienerberger AG.
