Delcam Notches Up Record Sales Again

Delcam's results for 2000 showed record sales and profits during the year. Turnover grew by £1.2 million, to exceed £17 million. Profit before tax was up by 58% at £1.6 million, with more than £1 million coming in the second half of the year.

The improved results continued the company's move towards the more profitable sale of software rather than sales of hardware. Sales of Delcam's Power Solution CADCAM software for the design, manufacture and inspection of complex shapes, and related services, increased by more than 18% over 1999. In contrast, hardware sales declined by around 15%, mainly as a result of steadily falling prices.

Strongest growth was seen in the Asia-Pacific region and in South America. Sales in these areas grew by an average of 40%, so they now make up around one-third of the company's business. A disappointing final quarter restricted North American sales growth to 12%, following a much stronger performance earlier in the year. Expansion of the sales network towards the end of 2000 should give continued growth in 2001 despite the current uncertainties over the US economy.

Summarising the results, Chairman Tom Kinsey said: "The good progress, both technically and commercially, experienced in 1999 has continued during 2000. With a series of new software releases planned for this year, together with significant enhancements to our existing products and continuing investment in our sales channels, we remain confident in our competitive position".
