Official Signature on Acquisition of Danfeng Silicon Carbide Producer


On the occasion of the visit of Bo Xilai, Trade Minister of the People's Republic of China, to France between 2 May and 5 May 2005, the acquisition of Danfeng by Saint-Gobain was officially signed in Paris.

Danfeng, based in the Heilongjiang Province of northern China, is the country's leading supplier of fine silicon carbide powders, the high performance ceramic used in the form of grain or grit in a wide range of products such as semiconductor parts, abrasives and refractory products.

Every year, Danfeng produces 15,000 metric tons of silicon carbide with sales close to US$20 million. Saint-Gobain said that as a result of this acquisition Saint-Gobain High-Performance Materials had become the leading producer of silicon carbide technical powders in Asia, boosting the group's global leadership in this speciality.
