Environmental Achievement Helps Secure Contracts

High standards of environmental management have led to Materials Handling Products Ltd (Swadlincote, Derbys, England) achieving the ISO 14001 Enviromark Silver Award just 12 months after it qualified for the Bronze level.

MHP specialises in solutions (such as Abratuff - see final paragraph of this item) for lining, spillage control and screen media and is one of only a handful of companies in its sector to have achieved both ISO 9001 and the ISO 14001 Enviromark Silver Award. The company adds that, as many companies have found, these standards are fast becoming compulsory requirements for suppliers to the major players in the market.

MHP's ability to work with customers on environmental matters was instrumental in winning a recent contract with Midland Quarry Products, Cliffe Hill Quarry. To assist the customer with waste disposal, MHP agreed to use its own transport and supply all materials devoid of packaging from its base in the East Midlands.

MHP's Managing Director Brian Mackenzie explained: "There is increasing pressure on suppliers to demonstrate good environmental management and the Award shows that we are able to meet the high standards the industry demands".

MHP's new Abratuff Elasto Shock uses specially shaped ceramic blocks that are able to move in any direction in a specially designed polyurethane matrix. This unique arrangement means that each ceramic block acts as if it mounted on a shock absorber. The result is not only extreme impact and abrasion resistance but also an increased wear area. The company says it is likely to prove a particularly efficient solution when used in steelworks, cement works and hard rock quarrying. MHP is the sole UK distributor for the product, which can be supplied with embedded steel mesh for simple mechanical fixing to chutes and hoppers.
