Chávez Announces Nationalisation of Cerámicas Carabobo

ABN has reported that the Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez announced on 21 May 2009 the nationalisation of a group of companies from different sectors to advance the construction of a new industrial complex.

During the workshop held in Ciudad Guayana in Bolívar state, the President announced that in addition to Matesi, Comsigua, Venprecar and Orinoco Iron, the well known manufacturer Cerámicas Carabobo is to be nationalised. There has been a prolonged labour dispute at the ceramics tile manufacturer.

"There is nothing to discuss. We've been on this for a long time," said President Chávez in a televised address, ordering the beginning of "a process of nationalisation to create an industrial complex."

The announcement is the start of a "transition" so that these companies can become the "solid platform of socialism," he said.

"Venezuelan workers are going to give a lesson to the world on how the working class has been resuscitated to make a revolution!" he told industry workers in the western state of Bolívar.
