Major Changes Announced for Ceramic Industry Training Body

Major changes were agreed with regard to the organisation and running of the
Association for Ceramic Training and Development (ACTD) at the annual
meeting of the board of management. These include the scrapping of
membership fees for companies and the setting-up of ACTD as a limited
company. Both these changes will be effective immediately.

Since 1992, membership of ACTD has been set at £3 per head/employee. This
has now been withdraw and all ceramic manufacturing companies and companies
within the industry supply chain - such as retailers, raw material suppliers
and other sectors with allied links - will be able to take up the offer of
free membership.

Set up around 20 years ago in a different format, ACTD aims to meet the
needs of companies and their employees in ensuring that training and
education to develop skills in the sector is there for all.

With responsibility for developing NVQs and apprenticeship schemes, ACTD
will generate income through programmes placed within the workplace and
through contract activities with Government departments and their Agencies.

The setting-up of ACTD as a limited company will enable the Government
contract work to continue.

ACTD is a non-profit making organisation and the board of management is led
by ceramic industry employers and includes representatives of other partner
organisations such as the Ceramic and Allied Industries Trades Union (CATU),
Staffordshire Learning and Skills Council, Advantage West Midlands and other
industry bodies.
