BDA Launches Brick Awards

The Brick Development Association (Winkfield, Windsor, Berks, England) has launched the BDA Brick Awards 2005. This prestigious industry awards scheme is designed to highlight excellence in brickwork, whether in architectural, structural, landscape or craft applications. Entry forms can be downloaded from the BDA website (www.brick.org) and the closing date for entries is 8 July 2005.

Anyone can enter the BDA Brick Awards: architects, designers, engineers, owners, developers, housebuilders, specialist brickwork contractors and brick manufacturers are all eligible. The 11 categories include housing, public and commercial buildings, housebuilding, refurbishment and landscape. In addition, the winner of each category will automatically be considered for the BDA Building of the Year Award.

The panel of judges is chaired by RIBA President, George Robinson and comprises: Bob Baldwin (Past President, Guild of Bricklayers); Mira Bar-Hillel (London Evening Standard); Dan Cruickshank (BBC Presenter and writer/consultant); Geoff Flower (Manhattan Loft Corp); Robin Nicholson (Edward Cullinan Architects); John Outram (John Outram Associates); Bill Preston (Bovis Lendlease and Chairman, Assn of Brickwork Contractors); John Roberts (Prof of Structural Engineering, Kingston Univ); and David Birkbeck (CEO, Design for Homes).

All winners will be announced at a gala presentation evening on 2 November 2005 at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London's Park Lane. As in previous years, a well known personality from the stage or screen will liven up proceedings in addition to a fun event aimed at raising funds for charity.
