Morgan Technical Ceramics Showcases Injection Moulded Ceramic Dental Abutments

Morgan Technical Ceramics (MTC), a leading manufacturer of innovative ceramic, glass, precious metal, piezoelectric and dielectric materials, will exhibit at booth #2828 at MD&M East held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York, USA from 3-5 June 2008. MTC will showcase state-of-the-art medical components including ceramic injection moulded (CIM) dental abutments that offer dental practitioners and laboratories significant benefits in terms of biocompatibility, aesthetics and volume manufacture.

MTC has introduced several refinements to the ceramic injection moulding process to produce large volumes of complex, ultra-high precision ceramic components for medical implants and devices. The process achieves excellent batch to batch repeatability and dimensional tolerances of +/– <0.3%.

The CIM process enables engineers to take advantage of the biocompatibility and durability of ceramics for components previously considered too difficult to manufacture. Features such as re-entrant angles, multi-shaped blind holes, screw threads, surface profiles, perpendicular holes, undercuts and intricate cavities are all possible using CIM technology developed by MTC.

MTC employs the advanced CIM process to produce ceramic dental abutments that offer significant advantages over titanium. The ceramic material enhances aesthetic appearance, with a more natural colour than titanium, while providing an inherent biocompatibility that improves soft tissue management after implantation. MTC recently achieved ISO13356 Implants for Surgery using Non-Metallic Materials approval for the Y-ZTP Zirconia material used in all its dental abutments.

MTC develops and produces a wide range of products for medical applications from an extensive range of materials, including advanced ceramics, metal alloys, engineered coatings and piezoceramics. MTC components are widely used in surgical instrumentation, diagnostic equipment and implantable applications such as hip joint replacements and cochlear implants.
