Thrown Ware Course

Tutor Melanie Brown will take a thrown ware course every Wednesday for six weeks starting on 21 April 2004 at Craft in the Bay in Cardiff Bay (Wales). Melanie creates delicate thrown ware in porcelain which she fires to a high temperature, producing smooth glassy glazes decorated with precious metal lustres.

Her work is influenced by the materials and techniques of traditional Oriental potters and she often uses Japanese techniques of raku to create the bright colours and distinctive crazing effect within her glazes.

The course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience and is designed to give the student basic skills in designing and making ceramic ware using a wheel.

During the six-week course, students will have the opportunity to learn how to create the four main elements to a teapot as well as a number of other sculptural and functional forms.

The cost of the course is £190.
