Pigments Mimic Fired Clay Product Shades

Bayer Chemicals AG, which is to show alongside its marketing partner Harold Scholz & Co GmbH at BAUMA 2004 (29 March to 4 April 2004, Munich, Germany) says that coloured concrete products present planners and contractors with a broad array of design options. Concrete can be easily coloured to match to the surroundings of the structure or other materials used in its construction. Furthermore, the colour is permanent.

The Bayferrox(r) pigments manufactured at Bayer Chemicals' Krefeld-Uerdingen plant are said to be especially well suited to the creation of a number of natural colours, making concrete - a highly customisable building material - even more attractive. A multitude of shades can be created in combination with chromium oxide green.

New to the line-up is Bayferrox 503. Manufacturers often look to traditional construction materials when selecting shades for coloured raw materials. The trend in the construction industry has long been toward 'brick red' shades which were previously available only in fired clay products such as roofing tiles and bricks. Bayferrox 503 rounds out the existing range with a new red pigment having a high tinting strength and a yellow cast that can be used to optimally obtain the shades the market demands.

The company says that Bayferrox 503 is particularly well suited for the permanent coloration of concrete roofing tiles, where the demand is often for light, brick-red shades.
