New Recruit to Raise Profile of Ceramics

A new recruit at Staffordshire University will manage key aspects of a £1.8 million project to support design and marketing in the British ceramic industry.

Amanda Orchard has joined the University's Services for Business team as Ceramic Industry Forum Marketing Adviser. The University is a partner in the Forum's 'Leading by Design' initiative and Amanda will coordinate projects that have been contracted to the University.

These include:

• Setting up an international design competition for the ceramic industry.

• Creating actual and virtual design networks through both physical and web-based meetings.

• Organising seminars and events, not just on the physical aspects of the industry, but also areas such as management skills, training and lifestyle analysis.

Amanda said: "The ceramics industry is full of people with great ideas and is not scared of innovation. But companies don't always have the capacity to make changes and this post is all about giving them the extra design and marketing support they need.

"I will also be looking at the marketing of the forum itself and how the profile of the industry can be raised through increasing awareness of the forum. Activities such as the design competition are an opportunity to develop ideas internationally and draw attention to the skilled individuals both within and outside the industry, and also promote the hard work the forum carries out behind the scenes."
