Factory Masterclass
'Creating the Incredible, Flexible Factory' is the title of a Manufacturing Masterclass at Manchester's Manufacturing Institute, to be held on Thursday 3 May 2001.
Manufacturing masters from the Best Factory Award winning Colman's and Celestica and from Dell will share the proven techniques they use to meet the needs of their most demanding customers. They will show delegates how to respond to variations in customer demand and product mix, without holding bulging buffer stocks, investing in surplus capacity or incurring massive overtime costs.
Managers from Colman's will explain how they have moved from a high overtime to a no overtime operation, while Dell's Vice President EMEA Operations will outline the company's Built to Order Model, which is described as the epitome of demand and supply integration.
Celestica's Operations Manager will demonstrate how he has led the implementation of lean manufacturing - resulting in significant improvements in quality performance, process lead time and overall material control.
They will be joined by Chris Brewster, Professor of International Human Resource Management at Cranfield, who works with leading international companies to improve their effectiveness and efficiency.
