Particle Sizing in Precious Materials

New 'Micro' and 'Macro' sample trays for the Malvern Mastersizer 2000's Scirocco sample dispersion unit will, says the company, pave the way for highly reproducible particle size measurement of milligram quantities of dry samples. This should make it ideal for use with precious materials. Also introduced is a tray cover that fastens at just a single point, making operation especially easy for applications where gloves must be worn.

Malvern Instruments says the Scirocco offers high performance and ease of use for all dry materials, with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the software allowing even complete beginners to obtain results comparable with those from expert operators.

Computer control of the dispersive air pressure ensures reproducible measurement of fragile materials with minimum attrition, and the Scirocco is said to efficiently disperse difficult materials - such as very fine metal powders - at lower dispersive air pressures, with quiet operation.
