Digital Dreams

Cuccolini, a major player in Europe as a manufacturer of process machinery for the ceramic and food industries, has been investing heavily in state-of-the-art digital printing technology and through its New Technology Division (NTD) is able to reproduce digital images originated in industry standard design software - whether PC or Mac - to print finished decals it believes more cost effectively than any of its competitors.

The system is said to have a vital part to play for any company that produces ceramic ware. Whether the customer needs just one sheet of decals or a sample production run for a major client who wants, for instance, to personalise ceramic ware to their brand, the choice is there for the prospective user.

Using specially produced ceramic toners to print on to coated paper, once printed the covercoat is applied by one of two methods and the waterslide decal applied. The process takes on average only around two minutes per A3 sheet of decals (depending on how the covercoat is applied). Cuccolini NTD can print images up to 480dpi resolution in full CMYK colour with a maximum paper size of A3.

Cuccolini NTD can act as a bolt-on facility to produce customers' decals or, alternatively, the necessary equipment can be supplied to customers wanting their own in-house facility. The company points out that no extensive training is necessary, with customers' own design staff being able to use this equipment with a minimum of additional training.

It is important, however, that given the nature of the printing process, a suitable area be found for the location of the system. The environment where equipment is located can affect print performance. The area should be temperature controlled and have a relative humidity of 40%-50% all year round.
