Delcam to Enhance ArtCAM Pro

Delcam (Birmingham, England) is to release a new version of its 3D modelling and machining software, ArtCAM Pro. The software's wide range of new enhancements is expected to consolidate its leading position and to expand its applications in the ceramic, packaging and footwear sectors.

One of the most important enhancements is the improved manipulation of text - users can now align, re-edit and fit text to lines or curves. A totally new vector function is 'true shape 2D nesting', which allows the user to nest vector groups as complete entities into a specified space, thus reducing material wastage.

Included in the modelling enhancements are a 'retain fine detail' command, allowing a model to be scaled in Z without losing fine detail, and a 'paste along curve' function. The two-rail sweep utility has been improved, giving the user greater control over the exact shape of the finished model.

A major new timesaving utility is the 'create angled plane' function, which allows for the creation of models with fully definable angled planes. As the model is built up, the user is able to take 2D sections of the 3D model, for analysis or modelling operations.

Enhancements on the machining side include rest engraving, which minimises engraving time by allowing multiple tools to be used for one job, with each tool only machining where the previous larger tool could not reach. This time saving is further enhanced by the inclusion of a new strategy allowing step-overs to be greater than 50% of the tip radius of the tool.

Any defined toolpath can now be saved as a template and reloaded at a later stage, with all its strategies and tools, in one command.
