Composite Material Qualification
NPL (Teddington, Middx, England) has completed a DTI project to develop a standard qualification plan (SQP) for the initial qualification of preimpregnated (prepreg) fibre-reinforced thermoset and thermoplastic material systems, to assist in quality control, material selection and preliminary design.
It is aimed at reducing the substantial costs involved in qualifying materials. A Good Practice Guide has been produced that will act as the basis of an internationally recognised and agreed qualification plan and as a precursor for standardisation.
