IOM Academy Launched

The Materials Processing Initiative (MPI) of The Institute of Materials (London, England) has launched the IOM Academy to provide industry with interactive, online training packages in materials engineering.

This major new training resource is being developed to provide a series of modules giving impartial, expert information on the processing and use of all engineering materials in the main sectors of manufacturing technology. Using easy to follow, interactive steps, IOM Academy modules provide all the relevant information needed on the engineering material or process being studied, from design and materials selection through processing and quality testing to performance and serviceability.

The first module deals with the 'Heat Treatment of Steels'. Further modules are in preparation on the design, metallurgy and performance of dies and tools for metal forming and machining, on corrosion engineering and on polymer processing.

Academy modules are supported by four virtual Exhibition Halls which provide relevant product information to support the teaching text. The exhibition, which can be accessed directly and through the Institute's website, also gives leading companies an opportunity to showcase their products and services in international markets, through exhibits which can be hotlinked to their company websites.
