'UNDISCIPLINED' - 3rd Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art, 2006

The 3rd Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art developed as a network, a new form of intra/inter territorial aggregation, aimed at developing the social and cultural assets of the Ceramic District in the Province of Savona (Ligurian Riviera, Italy).

During its 3rd edition - entitled UNDISCIPLINED - the Biennale has focused on fostering the interaction and co-existence of multiple and unique interests within a geographic area with deeply-rooted ceramic traditions (Albisola, Savona, Vado Ligure), involving internationally renowned designers and artists, museum curators, critics, art and design historians, ceramic laboratories and hi-tech companies, professional training centres, universities and fine arts academies in a single field of action.

The 3rd Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art has promoted the encounter between local material ethos, the creative concepts of designers, the free expression of artists and the culture of hi-tech companies to foster an 'undisciplined' hybridisation of ceramic, design and contemporary art.

All exhibited works and prototypes have been created over the last two years for Attese Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art and are completely new.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 8 July 2006 and will be generally open from 9 July through until 10 September. It is variously housed in the City Art Gallery, Palazzo Gavotti, Savona, "Manlio Trucco" Ceramic Museum, Albisola Superiore Villa Jorn, Albisola Marina Parfiri Art Space, Vado Ligure.

Outdoor installations will be sited at the Piazza Chabrol, Savona, "Eugenio Montale" seaside promenade, Albisola Superiore, Artist’s promenade, Albisola Marina, and Via Aurelia (close to the City Art Gallery of Villa Groppallo no. 72), Vado Ligure.

The artistic directors are Tiziana Casapietra, Roberto Costantino, Founding Directors of the Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art.

The exhibition will also be the venue for the presentation of projects developed by the Biennale in collaboration with the Company Artistic Design Department of the Brera Fine Arts Academy (Milan), with the Industrial Design degree programme at the Faculty of Architecture (Genoa) and with the NABA (new Academy of Fine Arts) in Milan.

As far as scientific research is concerned, the Biennale will present three new scientific research projects:

- The first project, "Piero Manzoni and Albisola" was commissioned by the Biennale to Francesca Pola, art historian, and was developed in collaboration with the Piero Manzoni Archive in Milan.

- The second project, "Asger Jorn’s home in Albisola" was developed by Roberto Ohrt, independent curator and historian of the Situationist International.

- The third project, entitled "Technological innovation and ceramic craftsmanship" by Niccolò Casiddu, expert in design components and materials, was commissioned by the Attese Biennale of Ceramics in Contemporary Art to the Department of Science of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture (Genoa) and developed in collaboration with Technimold, a hi-tech company in Genoa, and with craftsmen from the Ceramic District in the Province of Savona (Studio Ylli Plaka, Savona; La Nuova Fenice, Albissola Marina).
