Tile Association Awards

The Product Category section of The Tile Association Annual Awards reflected the predominant trends in the market.

The Tile Association received many entries for the Wall Tile of the Year and the judges said that they were impressed with every single entry. The tiles represented the current towards taupes, chocolates and creams, and texture featured heavily. The winner was British manufacturer H&R Johnson Tiles for its 'Infiniti' range.

What impressed the judges with the winning Floor Tile entry, the 'Terra Del Fuoco' range from Ceramica Piemme, was that all technical aspects had been considered and were easily found on the accompanying literature.

Best New Innovation proved to be the most difficult award to judge, according to the TA, because the nominations were such varied products ranging from display boards to grouts and new technical equipment. After a great deal of discussion, the judges decided to go for a product which has taken innovation in tile design one stage further.

Creative 3D glass tiles by Rupert Scott Ltd are intended for a specialist market and each hand-made item is so unique that it is signed on the back by the artist who made it. The tiles are made using the 'kiln fusing' technique and are then carefully polished by hand with a diamond wheel to create an excellent finish to the edges - it takes almost an hour to make just a single 10cm x 10cm tile!

Any company wishing to enter its development for next year's award should go to The Tile Association's web site: www.tiles.org.uk
