Italian Sanitaryware Plant Expands with 'FAST' Technology

Sole24Ore reports that one of Ideal Standard's sanitaryware plants in Italy is well on the way to completing a plant expansion which will see output nearly double, from 880,000 pieces per year to 1.5 million pieces per year.

The Orcenico di Zoppola plant in Pordenone is to benefit from FAST (full automated sanitaryware technology), a new automatic production line for ceramics which is said to be specially suited to bathroom sanitaryware. The prototype - designed, developed and built in just one year at a cost of ?5 million - will not only virtually double output but will also reduce waste by 30%.

It is reported that the installation of FAST will make the Orcenico plant an international ceramic manufacturing model and, furthermore, will allow workers with the hardest and most dangerous tasks to be transferred, following a period of retraining, to other areas of the plant.
