Enhanced Website Offers Ceramic Component Design Info

The Association of American Ceramic Component Manufacturers (AACCM), endorsed by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS), unveiled its updated website - www.aaccm.org - at the ACerS Annual Meeting and Expo.

It now contains information that offers insight on material design challenges and solutions for applications in a whole host of industries. The ceramic component solutions apply to other industries and applications that share similar issues, such as in aerospace, instrumentation, heat treatment, power generation, telecommunications, electrical, appliance, medical, construction, textile, paper processing and mineral processing.

A series of 'Success Stories' at the site address specific design challenges and their solution through the proper choice of ceramic material, component design and fabrication technique. Many of the solutions share a common theme of increasing productivity and reducing costs in an application, often displacing components made of metals or polymers.

The 'Member Capabilities' section provides detailed information in two matrix tables about each AACCM member's manufacturing capabilities and applications and industries served. The 'Industry Matrix' shows the industries and applications served by each member. Almost 50 specific industry applications are listed, falling within categories such as electronic, thermal, materials handling and processing, wear, structural/mechanical and raw materials production.

The 'Capabilities Matrix' shows the ceramic materials, forming methods and machining/finishing services available from each member, addressing 15 materials, 7 forming methods and 7 machining and/or finishing categories.

The site also contains a 'Why Ceramics' section which addresses some of the properties, benefits and uses of ceramic materials. A 'Property Comparison' at the site compares the properties of steel to those of seven different ceramic materials.
