Eeles Family Pottery Exhibition

The Eeles Family Ceramic Exhibition - 'Fresh from the Dragon Kiln' - will open on 7 July 2004 at Milton Abbey, Milton Abbas, Dorset, England. The exhibition will be situated within the abbey under the magnificent Jesse stained glass window designed by Pugin. The exhibition contains over 300 new works of woodfired raku, stoneware and porcelain designed and made by David Eeles, his wife Patricia and sons Benjamin and Simon.

The Eeles family work as a team in their well known pottery; the range of glazes, techniques of making and decoration are extensive and all of the fine decorative work is completed by hand. Every piece is treated with the same attention to detail in the making process, aiming for a high level of craftsmanship and ever challenging the boundaries of technique, draughtsmanship, colour and associated chemistry.

The stoneware and porcelain is fired in a three-chambered woodfired climbing dragon kiln, so called because when alight at night the flames protruding from the tops of each chamber are like a recumbent dragon breathing fire. Approximately 3,000 pieces are contained in each firing. This takes a team of workers 36 hours of continuous stoking with pine wood in order to reach the ultimate temperature of 1260°C.

All of the work in the exhibition is for sale and it continues until 1 September 2004. Entry is by voluntary donation to the abbey funds.
