US Ceramic Tile Market Exhibits Double-Digit Growth

Research and Markets (Dublin, Republic of Ireland) has added a report on the US Ceramic Tile Market to its offering. The publication includes a complete marketing and statistical reference source for this sector, covering 50 years of statistical information along with commentary and analysis on market size and growth potential, product mix, pricing, export markets, import penetration, economic indicators, construction, industry stats, financial and strategic analyses of industry participants and a directory of 500 US ceramic tile manufacturers, suppliers and distributors with addresses and 'phone numbers.

The US ceramic tile market advanced by 10% in 2004 as total consumption reached 3.13 billion sq.ft. (291 million sq.m.), powered by continued strength in residential housing as well as improvement in the commercial sector. Dollar volume climbed by 12.6% to US$2.8 billion in 2004.

Domestic manufacturers' shipments expanded by 5.6% in 2004 on strong demand for larger sized glazed tile. After a ten-year slide, average prices for ceramic tile firmed by 2.4% in 2004 with further price hikes expected in 2005.

Exports of US manufactured ceramic tile rebounded 26.9% last year on a unit basis while dollar volume posted a 12.6% advance, driven by strong demand in Canada, Jamaica and the UK. Activity in international markets remains positive for 2005.

The volume of imported ceramic tile reached 2.5 billion sq.ft. (232.25 million sq.m.) in 2004, expanding by 11.5% and capturing a 79% share of the US market. Despite a powerful surge early in the year, the pace of import growth is expected to moderate in the latter half of 2005. Italy is the leading ceramic tile supplier to the US market, while Brazil overtook Spain for second place position. Tile shipments from Mexico, Thailand, Venezuela and Colombia continue to climb while China became the fifth largest ceramic tile supplier in early 2005.
