Dankotuwa Porcelain Launches New Designs

Dankotuwa Porcelain (Dankotuwa, Sri Lanka) launched five new designs to the local market on 15 June 2007 through its showrooms located at Kollupitiya, Kirulapone, Kandana and Dankotuwa.

The five new designs are produced under the brand name of 'Dankotuwa' and have been designated Farmod, Copia Yellow, Jewel Cream, Regal Gold and Arabesque Etching.

“We decided to launch these designs on noticing the popularity of these designs when a few export excess sets were available in the showrooms and which wowed customers. These designs had been immensely popular with Indian, Pakistani and Middle East tourists,“ said Sarath Mallawa Arachchi, COO of Dankotuwa Porcelain. “All these designs are meant for very formal special occasions such as celebrations and entertaining special guests and not for everyday use.”

These designs are currently exported to Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Dubai and India. Dankotuwa has been gradually increasing its range of formal designs in its showrooms and phasing out its classic designs which had been in existence for over 20 years. As a result, the showrooms have become an important attraction in the itinerary of tourists. Most have remarked that the prices are very reasonable compared to what they would pay in their home countries.

The Arabesque Etching and Jewel Cream designs are very rich and ornate and decorated with 24 carat gold or platinum and meant for very grand formal banquets, while the other three are also for formal dining or for celebrations.

“The lifestyles of local customers are changing fast with many using different designs for different occasions selecting the design which is appropriate for the occasion,” said Dankotuwa. “Gone are the days when people used the same design indiscriminately for all occasions.”

Although Dankotuwa makes casual designs as well, the more popular are its formal and rich designs. “Dankotuwa has the widest range in Sri Lanka and therefore there is always a design to suit everyone,” said Biswajith Wickramasinghe, Manager (Local Sales).
