White Horse Ceramic Forced to Raise Prices

Local reports say that White Horse Ceramic Industries Sdn Bhd, manufacturing in Malaysia, has had to raise the price of its tiles by 10% in order to insulate against the recent fuel and electricity tariff hikes.

Its tiles were now priced between RM 2.20 and RM 12 per sq ft, said White Horse Marketing Sdn Bhd assistant general manager Raymond Loo. The companies are subsidiaries of White Horse Bhd, one of the country's leading ceramic tile manufacturers.

The group might see slower sales growth this year but with the slight price increase, “we should be able to sustain ourselves,” Loo said before closing the Ceramic World Tile Trends workshop recently. He said White Horse recorded 5% to 7% growth early this year but the rate was expected to slow down because of the current market situation.

Mr Loo said the group would launch its fifth showroom, measuring 40,000 sq ft, in Klang by early August. “There are several housing projects coming up in Klang and this will boost our presence there,” he said. White Horse currently has showrooms in Butterworth, Bandar Baru Selayang, Johor Baru and Alor Star.

At the workshop, visitors comprising architects, home decorators, contractors and developers were briefed on new tile concepts, tile installation methods and innovative ways of home decorating with tiles. White Horse Ceramics also hosted 600 architectural students from 22 local universities who attended the workshop as part of their study tour.
