Unimak – Taking the Positives out of Major Meeting Point for Ceramics

Unimak Machine Industry Co Ltd – the leading Turkish specialist in turnkey plants and advanced technology for ceramic sanitaryware – had an enhanced presence at this year’s Ceramitec exhibition and what resulted was a busy stand throughout the week and extremely encouraging feedback from the industry’s major manufacturing decision makers.

Unimak is headquartered in the north-western city of Bursa (Turkey’s fourth largest city) and next year will celebrate 25 years supplying to both new and existing ceramic plants. The success of the company’s systems and the advantages that they offer has been reflected in recent contracts in important ceramic producing regions.

In Asia, Unimak has been responsible for a complete turnkey sanitaryware project in Sri Lanka and, when commissioning is complete, the starting capacity will be 250,000 pieces per year.

Meanwhile, the company has been building on its ties in the Middle East and in the Gulf with two important projects ordered by Saudi Ceramics and Lecico, among the oldest and leading ceramic companies in these regions. The contract with Saudi Ceramics has involved the provision of a casting plant for vitreous china one-piece WCs and a filter press machine; meanwhile the contract with Lecico has involved the supply of two casting plants for heavy fireclay pieces, together with a dryer.

Apart from being able to show Ceramitec visitors its solid references in the sector, Unimak was delighted to be able to officially launch two brand new systems for sanitaryware manufacturers. These were a new casting and handling system for heavy fireclay pieces and a specialised casting system aimed at the one-piece (monoblock) WC market. Response to both of these developments was very positive and the sales personnel have been following up the enquiries ever since the end of the show.

"As well as being an essential meeting point," commented Unimak Chairman, Burak Selamet, "this year’s Ceramitec was very successful for us in terms of welcoming many multi-cultural guests and having the chance to introduce our new technologies and designs to the decision-makers of our potential customers, such as our new casting machine for fireclay pieces and another for one-piece WC production.

"We also had the opportunity to make new contacts and our team had very interesting conversations about new projects. We were glad to take part in this fair and we are looking forward to the next show in 2009."

The experience that the company has built up now means that it is in a position to offer raw material extraction, batching and conveying systems; slip and glaze preparation systems; moulding and shaping/casting plants; drying and firing systems; glazing plants; grinding and finishing machines; as well as transport, packaging and storage.

It also owns Aytek, one of Europe’s leading coil spring manufacturers and Union, a marketing firm which is currently the Turkish distributor of the Benecke Kaliko brand. Unimak’s site in Bursa’s Osmangazi county now covers an overall area of 24,000 sq.m. and has the design, technical and manufacturing teams necessary to service the most complex and sizable projects for the ceramic industry. The company is now preparing to exhibit at Tecnargilla in Rimini at the end of September.
