Fourth International Symposium on Nitrides

During the last three decades, French scientists have held a series of meetings (JENI) on nitrides. In view of the ever-expanding fields of applications of nitrides in ceramics, metals, glasses, composites, coatings, sensors, catalysts and electronic thin films, the 10th French meeting was opened up to a wider audience, in the form of the first international symposium on nitrides in 1996.

ISN'T IT 2003 is the fourth event in the series of these symposia and it will take place in Mons, Belgium from 17-19 November 2003. Previous symposia were held in St Malo, France in May, 1996; Limerick, Ireland in 1998; and in Seville, Spain in 2000.

The scientific programme will consist of a number of invited plenary lectures and other oral presentations, as well as poster sessions with discussion. The symposium will deal with all branches of materials science and engineering, concerning the role of nitrogen in improving and modifying the properties of materials; particularly for novel applications.

The planned sessions will cover the following topics:

  • Oxynitrides in Catalysts

  • Oxynitrides Glasses and Glass-Ceramics

  • Functional Nitrides and Oxynitrides

  • Nitride Coatings and Thin Films

  • Silicon Nitrides and Sialon Ceramics

  • Characterisation and Modelling of Nitrides and Oxynitrides

  • Preparation and Crystal Chemistry of Nitrides and Oxynitrides

  • The proceedings of the symposium will be published and sent tot each delegate after the conference. All the papers will be peer reviewed prior to publication.

Deadline for submission of short abstracts of proposed papers is 1 August 2003, with pre-programme and inscription scheduled for September and the deadline for submission of full papers of 31 October 2003.
