Sintering and Firing Advances from Linn

Linn High Therm GmbH (Eschenfelden, Germany) has launched a microwave heating chamber and new rotary tube furnace.

The Dual-Frequency Heating Chamber combines microwaves of two different frequencies - 2.45GHz and 5.8GHz - in a single unit. Two microwave generators of each frequency provide a microwave power of 1.6kW at 2.45GHz and 1kW at 5.8GHz.

The cylindrical microwave chamber is made from aluminium with a diameter of 640mm and a height of 330mm. Useful chamber dimensions are diameter of 200mm by a height of 100mm. The door opening with a size of 400mm x 400mm is closed by an aluminium door with six screws and has a special microwave sealing. The chamber is equipped with two viewing holes, one on top of the chamber and one on the right hand side which can be used, for example, for pyrometer measurements.

The control cabinet is placed below the chamber in the underframe of the unit. Each microwave generator can be switched on individually and the power can be adjusted by potentiometer between 15% and 100%. Two timers - one for each frequency - can be used to switch the microwave on and off at programmed times.

By use of an optional fibre insulation housing, the heating chamber can be used for high temperature applications such as ceramic sintering. The inside dimensions of the insulation housing are approximately 100mm x 100mm x 100mm.

The second launch is a mini rotary tube furnace for uses up to 1000°C for universal applications in laboratory and industry. It has rotating quartz tube insert, with variable rotation speed and inclination.

Linn claims easy handling, short heat up and cool down cycles for this stainless steel cased unit. It uses a PID controller with one heating up ramp. The inner diameter of the quartz glass tube is 25mm. The heated length is 150mm - 220W/230V.
